Olivier Giroud has signed a new one-year contract at Chelsea, the Premier League side have confirmed.
'I am very happy and looking forward to the next year!' – @_OlivierGiroud_ pic.twitter.com/9upc88ffUW— Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) May 21, 2019This season, Giroud has scored 10 goals in the Europa League – becoming the first ever Chelsea player to reach double figures in a single season of European football. The 18-month deal Giroud signed when he joined from the Gunners expired this summer, and as the World Cup winner struggled for regular playing time there had been speculation he could seek a return to his homeland. But with Chelsea still facing a transfer ban this summer, subject to an appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the club were keen to retain Giroud in an area of the pitch where they remain short of depth.“I am very happy to sign a new contract,” Giroud said on the Chelsea website.Getty1
